passive shelter ANTENNA

Overview

The UPTP passive shelter antenna (repeater) is a rugged and tested device that was specially designed for maintaining emergency communication with external world while residing in civil defense shelters, underground / hardened facilities and other applications in which might be a difficulties for signals to pass the walls, metal structures or the ground around them.
The UPTP antenna designed to receive and reproduce signals like radio and mobile phone networks from the outside into the shelter and vice versa without connection to power source (no electricity required!).

  • The devise have passed various tests and have a certification for civil defence shelters in Finland.

  • Ensuring communication in the shelters for staying in touch with rescue authorities, send emergency messages, and receive instructions.

  • Energy self-sufficiency doesn't require electricity and can work in situations when the power grid is not available.

Tested and Approved Solution Made in Finland

The devices are tested in many ways and are subjected to, for example, a vibration test, which describes the vibration caused by an outdoor explosion, which is transmitted through the concrete structures of the shelter to devices attached to the concrete structures, such as ventilation devices and passive repeaters.

The purpose of the demanding tests is to ensure that civil protection equipment will function in times of crisis.

Passive Repeater Brings Coverage to Civil Defence Shelters & Hardened Facilities

The passive repeater provides coverage to the civil defense system even in peacetime. The passive repeater, installed in the civil defense system and designed and manufactured for use in times of crisis, is intended to be used during a sheltering situation.

With the help of a passive repeater, we maintain contact with those outside the civil protection shelter and receive necessary instructions from authorities, including on various situations in which the civil protection shelter can be used, such as filtering, blocking or bypassing, and their duration. It is therefore advisable to equip civil defence shelters with a passive repeater.

Installing a Passive Antenna for Shelters

It is recommended to install only specifically designed and tested devices in such life saving facilities like civil defense shelters and protected areas.

Uusimaa Fire and Security Services Oy (Helsinki region in Finland) has tested the indoor antenna with Eurofins Expert Service in accordance with the requirements of Section 5 of Government Decree 409/2011 (the device being tested must withstand vibration of the mounting surface, where the maximum oscillation speed in any direction is 1.5 m/s and the maximum acceleration is 300 m/s2 ).

The passive antenna system must be installed firmly in structures with classified fasteners so that the entire system remains in working order for as long as possible.

When installing the system, it should also be noted that the outdoor antenna is installed correctly and at a sufficient height (at least 5 meters high).

Please insure before ordering the following:
  • The indoor antenna and antenna mounting can be fixed for vibration loading.

  • Make sure the outdoor antenna is installed at a height of at least 5 meters.

  • The cable running inside is installed in a metal pipe and secured with classified fasteners so that it does not come loose as a result of a possible explosion outside the shelter.

  • Outside, cabling runs in a sturdy conduit that is attached to the wall using rated fasteners.

  • The passive antenna system for civil protection operates without an external power source (electricity/batteries).

  • The passive antenna operates when the civil defense shelter is in closed mode, i.e. the doors, hatches and flaps are closed.

Installation Method

Antenna connections are effectively protected from weather effects with vulcanized tape, as well as a shrink sleeve that ensures the durability of the vulcanized tape.

Passive repeater parts attached to the facade using traditional methods with mounting brackets may stand out disturbingly from the facade. UPTP's outdoor installation unit is a solution that visually fits into its installation environment.

The cabling and outdoor antenna fit seamlessly into the installation pipe, creating a unified look. Special attention has been paid to aesthetics in the design, with the aim of making the outdoor unit blend into the background as much as possible. At the customer's request, we can also coat the color of the outdoor pipe to match the building's facade, making the blending even more effective.
